Northern Stars and Beyond: Our Story So Far
After months of intense competition between us and 19 other companies, we’ve only gone and landed ourselves a place among the 10 winners of this year’s Tech North Northern Stars Awards.
For those of you who don’t know, Northern Stars is essentially a pitch competition that pits 20 tech start-ups from across the region against each other, with each having to showcase and champion their own company to win the grand prize.
It began three months ago with an online application process, which was swiftly followed by series of exciting regional pitch events. Before we knew it we found ourselves stood on the winner’s stage at the grand final pitch-off at Old Granada Studios.
Exhausting? Yes. Worth it? Oh hell yes.
As well as the Northern Stars winner title, the cherry on the cake was the incredible prize package full of goodies any start-up would kill for, including a stand on the Tech North pavilion at Tech Crunch Disrupt, automatic entry into the Northern Tech Awards, a place at the Investor pitch event at Bloomberg, and pitch training from Amplify.
We got to enjoy the first of our prizes – the exhibition stand at Tech Crunch Disrupt – this week down in London, and what an experience that was! We found ourselves surrounded by investors, journalists and high-flyers in the tech industry from all over the world, and we were able to really show off what our company can do.
Potential partnership opportunities were discovered, new potential customers were introduced to the brand and many a valuable contact was made, including a couple of international VCs, which is a huge win for us.
It’s not everyday that opportunities like this come along, especially for start-ups and SMEs, let alone those based outside of London, so we consider ourselves incredibly privileged to be in the position we are now.
Needless to say, Northern Stars is such a great event for highlighting our growing tech industry, and Manchester in particular is a city that dares to be different and push boundaries, so we’re very proud to be a part of it. We couldn’t wait to get down to TechCrunch Disrupt to show the country and the world what this city is capable of, and we feel that we and the other 9 winners did a sterling job of it!
This win has opened so many doors for all of us, and we intend to fully explore all the opportunities that are coming our way in the next few months.
We also want to say proper congratulations to our fellow winners. We saw so much great work from everyone, and we know just how much hard work went into the whole thing. It was a pleasure to compete alongside so many great start-ups. Great work, guys!
